So upgrading the fans? Sidegrade/upgrade. The thing with the EVO and a single tower is that a single 2000 rpm (even a cheap horrible one and the CM one isn't bad)fan is more then enough to cool the fins on it. I recommend them for everyone who is looking in the sub 100 dollar area but much more then 30. I am not using "gaming headphones" (most are junk), just some really good Sony ones, with plush headphone covers that feels like pillows.īTW I love Noctua. With the creative surround suite and a good pair of headphones I get better sound then I would on a sub 1000 dollar speaker surround imo. The speakers go for a grand or so so maybe I will pick up a pair of 290x's when the third party coolers hit. In fact I will probably be selling the stereo and speakers. Also I like to play my games at night and speakers are too loud for the kiddies. If I did that now, I think my family would revolt.

I don't see a compelling reason to always have volume in your ears, that must be tiring :P I don't hear a difference between full load and computer being off.Įither way, either choice of cooler will be fine.Well in my younger days I connected my computer to my Carver AL III's and stereo. They will be releasing less than premium packaging for just the fan for less money. Noctua are premium, yes, because they come with accessories and the quality of the fans are superb. Noctua's are fantastic because they are so good at static pressure If one were to use a better tower than the one the EVO has, this would be quite apparent. The Evo 212 has a crappy fan which you would be replacing anyways and mounting system compared to Noctua so you're still better off with a noctua. Since he's going with lga1150 there should be no performance difference between a nh-d14/nh-U12s: Better then a d 14 though? Hell no.That Evo 212 (cheating with 2K rpm fan) even with a noctuafan is no challenge to a NH-u12s: If you value quiet? Of course the 12 or 14 is better. The 14 is an evo with a bigger fan, so it will be better. I wouldn't be surprised if the evo and the u12 turned out dead even and I wouldn't be surprised if the evo was ahead due to a loud, high rpm fan. The NH U12 is a Hyper 212 evo with a quieter (not better as far as cooling, 2000rpm CM vs 1500rpm Noctua) fan. Cept one is half the price INLCUDING noctua thermal grease. My money would be on the 12 and evo being dead even with noctua thermal grease, or so close that it doesn't matter. Also if they are spreading the compound air bubbles can skew things. Whatever test showed a single tower with 1 fan beating a double tower with multiple fans? Is suspect. The stuff that comes with the evo is garbage. Remember that the Noctua thermal grease is GOOD. Comes with pwm fans as well.I really don't see how that is possible on a single tower. Noctua NH-U12s/NH-U14s performance is on par with a nh-d14 with much better ram compatibility and is ofc a lot smaller. Quieter, MUCH better, and you could run it fanless and it would probably be better then the Zalman and Hyper 212. If I am approaching that money invested I would get the Noctua all the way. There are plenty of 30 dollar coolers that do as good a job and better. To me the Zalman is a complete waste of money. You can also get stuck with 4.3 on a Noctua/water. You have to win the silicon lottery though. You can hit 4.4 on a 30 dollar EVO on low voltage. The cheaper water coolers are no better then the Noctua and are louder and break more often. Can anyone suggest a good heatsink thats 100% compatible with this board(preferably with white LED)?įor me? It is 30 bucks Hyper 212 evo for 4.2, 80 bucks Noctua DH 14 if you value silence and want 4.4 on air.

Im thinking of Zalman CNPS9900, but my board has this metal plate on the back of the cpu socket, thus um not sure if il be able to install it.
